1. Why a multimedia enhanced ebook?I’ve been working with journalists, non-profits, and business folks for years to get them comfortable and articulate on camera. Teaching means repeating yourself a lot so I always thought, “One day I’ll write all these tips down.”I think part of my success with helping people make video is we get a little kooky. Making people laugh takes some of the stress out of an anxiety producing situation (ie. going on TV or webcast). I try to bring that entertainment factor to the videos I’ve created for the book too. Plus, how can you write a book about how to be good on camera without video demonstrations?!
2. What’s been the biggest challenge?
Marketing. I decided to go the self-publishing route because I really wanted to use the Vook platform, which combines text and multimedia beautifully for ebooks. So I’m a first time author without a publishing house to back me. It’s been a STEEP learning curve. But I’m working with some really creative people and we are trying all sorts of tactics to raise awareness about Camera Ready. One is a Kickstarter campaign that ends on Tuesday. Whether or not we meet our goal (and it’s getting dicey!), we’ll have succeeded in creating a community around the eBook and getting out the message that everyone can create quality video with the right preparation.
